Two Nogales, One Community

Stories Curated by Isabella Maria Barrón

Stories from the Border

Nogales, Arizona and Nogales, Sonora are twin cities woven together by family, work, music, markets, and memory. For those who live here, the border is not just a dividing line, but a point of connection—where stories cross, languages blend, and neighbors look out for one another.

Generaciones Fronterizas is a narrative journalism project that centers these lived experiences, highlighting how identity, belonging, and community are shaped in the borderlands through everyday life.

Three Generations

From abuelas who remember the first paved streets, to parents who have lived and worked on both sides of the border, to younger generations imagining what comes next, these stories reflect how life in Nogales has changed over time.

Through intergenerational storytelling, Generaciones Fronterizas explores how identity, belonging, and community are shaped across generations in the borderlands.
